2022 Honda HR-V Oil Filter

The manufacturer’s published maintenance schedule for this model year calls for replacing the oil filter every 20,000 miles. Service history and the maintenance schedule determine when that interval applies to your vehicle. Replacing the filter with the oil helps prevent a loaded filter from opening its bypass valve and allowing unfiltered oil to circulate.

• Filter replacement follows the manufacturer’s published schedule.
• The filter captures debris carried by the oil.
• Service history helps establish the next maintenance visit.

The filter is selected for the engine fitted to the HR-V. Renewing the gasket or washer supports the drain connection, while running the engine allows the technician to check the filter seal under operating oil pressure. The service is designed to replace the filter alongside the oil.

• Filter matched to the 1.8-liter inline-four engine.
• New drain plug gasket or washer where the engine uses one.
• Leak check at the filter seal after operation.

The engine still receives oil, but that oil no longer receives the filter’s debris-capturing action. Debris can therefore continue through the lubrication system instead of remaining in the filter. The maintenance schedule and service history determine when replacement is due.

• The filter gradually holds debris from the oil.
• The bypass valve opens when the filter loads.
• Unfiltered oil may circulate through the engine.

The 2022 Honda HR-V uses a 1,799 cc inline-four engine, so the filter must suit that engine’s fit and operating requirements. David McDavid Honda of Frisco matches the filter to the engine actually fitted rather than treating filters as universal parts. A technician can confirm the correct application during service.

• Engine displacement: 1.8 liters, or 1,799 cc.
• Engine configuration: inline-four, or four-cylinder.
• Filter selection is based on the engine application.

The filter holds debris removed from the oil, and stretching a loaded filter can allow the bypass valve to open. The manufacturer’s published maintenance schedule for this model year calls for oil filter replacement every 20,000 miles. Service history and the vehicle’s maintenance schedule determine whether filter replacement is due.

• The filter stores debris captured from the oil.
• A loaded filter may allow unfiltered oil to circulate.
• Scheduled maintenance determines when replacement is required.
