2023 Honda Civic Oil Filter

Replacing the filter with the oil renews the component that captures debris from circulating oil. The exact service timing can also be considered with the vehicle’s service history and the manufacturer’s schedule. A filter that loads can open its bypass valve, allowing unfiltered oil to circulate.

• Filter replacement is scheduled every 20,000 miles for this model year.
• The filter is matched to the engine fitted to the vehicle.
• The filter seal is checked for leaks after the engine runs.

The filter is selected for the Civic’s engine, then installed as part of the oil service. The sealing material is renewed where the engine uses it. After the engine runs, the filter seal is inspected for leaks before the service is complete.

• Filter matched to the engine’s specification.
• New drain plug gasket or washer where used.
• Leak check at the filter seal after the engine runs.

A loaded filter does not stop the engine from getting oil; it stops the engine from getting filtered oil. That can quietly reduce filtration as debris accumulates. The manufacturer’s maintenance schedule and the vehicle’s service history help determine when replacement is due.

• The filter holds debris carried by engine oil.
• A loaded filter can open its bypass valve.
• Unfiltered oil can circulate once bypass operation occurs.

The Civic uses an inline-four engine, with displacement ranging from 1.5 to 2.0 liters across its trims. Selecting the filter for the actual engine helps ensure the service is performed with the correct application. The engine configuration and vehicle service history guide the selection.

• The engine configuration is an inline-four.
• Displacement ranges from 1.5 to 2.0 liters.
• The filter is selected for the engine actually fitted.

Changing the filter alongside the oil renews the component that captures debris. Whether a filter should be replaced during a particular visit depends on the manufacturer’s schedule and the vehicle’s service history. David McDavid Honda of Frisco can match the filter to the Civic’s engine and check its seal after the engine runs.
