Now that school is officially back in session, why not start the season off right with a little preparation? No, we are not talking about back-to-school shopping or football tryouts, we want to help to ensure the safety of your children and even teach them a thing or two about caring for your car. Your vehicle will thank you for it by keeping you on the road and allowing you to arrive safely to PTA meetings and into that super fun carpool lane day in and day out! Not sure where to begin? Don't fret, McDavid Honda Frisco is here to teach you a thing or two and educate you about car care for the Fall! Knowledge is power so pull out your pens and take note of these quick tips to get your car ready for the school year.

 CAR MAINTENANCE & CARE:

 • Service Your Vehicle. A tired and poorly tuned engine uses more fuel and emits more emissions as you tote your students from home to school. Show your children how to recognize warning lights and to remember what they mean

• Get an Oil Change using the Correct Oil. As a rule of thumb, it is always best to use the grade of oil that is recommended in your owner's manual.

• Check Tire Pressure. It is best to do this in your driveway when the tires are cold (when your vehicle has not been driven for at least three hours). Teach the kids how to inspect and inflate your tires at a nearby gas station.

• Keep a Clean Air Filter. Clogged filters can reduce gas mileage and acceleration time

• Keep an eye on your windshield for nicks and scratches. A small ding can turn into something bigger, which will impair your ability to see. This can in turn cause a crash and harm you as well as your little passengers.

LIFESTYLE:

 • Carpool or Combine Errands. As an active parent, you may have a bunch to do from grocery shopping to hauling kids and equipment to sports games. If you plan your day, you can avoid "stop and go" traffic as well as save time and fuel expenses. Get with other parents and set a carpool schedule to give yourself and your car a break a few days a week.

• Save yourself some time by utilizing Apple Car Play to avoid high traffic areas and reduce your commute!

• Keep your fuel tank on full. It is best to fill up each time the needle goes below a quarter. You will get better fuel economy.

• Stay fresh with travel sized Lysol and disinfectant wipes. The demands of the school year and a car full of kids will bring all types of dirt, mud and even odors that you don’t want.

Small changes in your driving lifestyle can expand the lifespan of your car, save you money and make your life easier this school year. Take advantage of our service specials to be sure your ride is in tip top shape. Now that you have been schooled, will you apply this knowledge?
