Meredith Nicole Atkins David McDavid Honda of Frisco My favorite dad story is the a story about my husband and our first daughter. When my daughter was 10 months old my husband deployed overseas for 14 months. He returned home shortly after her second birthday. When he left she was unable to crawl and had just begun getting her teeth and hair in. When he returned she was walking, talking, had a full set of teeth, and enough hair for pig tails. He always said he left a wife and baby and came home to a wife and a little girl. While he was away our little family would skype as often as was possible and she grew up to think daddy lived in the computer. Anytime she heard the skype ringtone she would come running. Now that she is three she is still excited by the ringtone of skype because it has come to mean that daddy is calling in. Over skype we celebrated her first birthday, her second birthday, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, Wedding Anniversaries and every other special occasion in between.
By far my favorite memory and story of my eldest daughter and my husband was the day he returned home from overseas. In the evening I got my daughter ready and took her to the airport. I tried to explain to her ahead of time that she would get to see daddy but at two years old it was hard for her to understand just what that meant. When my husband got off the plane and began walking towards us my daughter instantly stopped playing and just stared in his direction. She started to walk towards him and then stopped halfway almost unsure of what to do. When he reached her and picked her up she looked right at him and said "Daddy!" with a smile on her face and she burst into tears. At this point my husband was embracing her and in tears and I was in tears while taking photos of their reunion. Every few seconds she would look at him the put her head down and cuddle him. She was so overwhelmed with emotion that she clung to him tightly and was shaking. Our daughter would not let go of him for over 30 minutes and she and my husband just stood embraced in the air terminal. When we returned home she didn't want to let him out of her sight for fear he would disappear again. It was a wonderful moment of reunion and there was so much love and tenderness shared between the two of them in that hug. That one hug made up for all the hugs missed over 14 months.
That memory has instilled the belief that the bond between a daughter and her father can never be broken despite the passage of time. A little girl will always love and remember her father no matter her age or where he is. Our daughter is now almost four and she is still completely in love with her father. He is her hero, her prince charming, and the center of her world.
Phillip Short David McDavid Honda of Frisco I drove with my dad out to Phoenix for the Fiesta Bowl in 2010 to watch TCU play. That was the first time i had been to Arizona and we were able to stop along the way to see family members that i hadn't been able to see in years. While there, it was awesome getting a chance to cheer on my team with my dad and i wouldn't trade it for anything. The ride back though was a straight shot back to Dallas but having his company with me in the car makes the long, sleepy drive in the car worth it!
Carl Kalbfleisch David McDavid Honda of Frisco My dad took me to my first Major League game back in the early 70's when we lived in NY. We say Tom Seaver pitch for the Mets against the Phillies. I enjoyed many other baseball games with him including seeing the White Sox in Chicago. Many other memories of sporting events with him revolve around football. I got to spend probably the last ten Fathers Day with him before he died in 2006.
James Quinn David McDavid Honda of Frisco While driving from Long Island, NY to Albany one year, my father tried to make it another exit and another. We ran out of gas. My parents stood out in the pouring rain,, under an umbrella, to find someone to help us. This was before cell phones, of course. Us three kids where in our Honda Odyssey for hours. Finally, someone picked up my father, drove him to a gas station, and he brought back a milk gallon container with gas. Never happened again.
Debbie Paciella Bates David McDavid Honda of Frisco This Dad story is about my hubby (although I have a few about my own Dad) He has coached our son's baseball team since Thomas was 3 (he's now going into 9U ball this Fall. He and Thomas have watched literally hundreds of games together and now he has our daughter Samantha hook! I love watching them play ball together or discuss games -- the discussions are great! While I'd love for the four of us to be together on Father's Day, it would be great for Thomas and Tom to be able to attend the game together. Thanks David McDavid for putting this together!
